SG 2000

We have mainly used this system to test out ideas concerning the silicone bonding, weatherproofing, and blast resistance of sophisticated glazing.

Whilst engaged in these tests, it became apparent that our frames gave a very high level of performance, and deserved marketing in their own right. Unfortunately, we could not see how we could carry out a large-scale marketing exercise without risking alienating some of our best silicone customers, and their silicone application will always be our bread and butter! The system has therefore only been sold by word of mouth, though repeat customers have included some of the largest cladding contractors in England and Scotland as well as Eire. SG 2000 is especially suited to larger units and vents, where some of the UK system suppliers hesitate to tread.

With the introduction of Document ‘L’ we have commissioned a thermal assessment of SG2000. Using a U1.4 value IG unit, we show an overall performance of U1.8 on the fixed light areas. The vents, as expected, are more of a problem, with a U value of nearly 3.0.

We will be carrying out a programme of improvement to lower this latter figure, which was obtained with only a 12mm thermal break.

By trading off the invariably smaller areas of vent to fixed units, we believe that we can already get very close to the required value.
