What is the fire resistance of structural silicone? |

| Answer |
|
We have been involved in several fire tests with silicone-glazed frames. This silicone has no inherent fire resistant properties, and is not sold on that basis.
Test observations do however show that the centre of the IG unit always melts and drops out before the silicone around the edge lets go. This means that:
a) You will not see the whole unit of glass falling to the ground in one piece.
b) The structural silicone will by not lessen the fire resistance of a standard non fire rated system. |

What are the thermal properties of the silicone? |

| Answer |
|
Silicone sealants are "rubberised" materials which have generic properties including being a good insulator. The thermal properties of a unit or façade need to be considered rather then individual components. The new standards, which will be available early 2002 pr EN 1279, and Building Regulations L address this in more detail. |

Structural Glazing Ltd offers the normal 12 months maintenance on all contracts. Subject to satisfactory adhesion tests and bite calculations Dow Corning offers a 10-year warranty upon receipt of our production documentation |

Sealglaze Ltd. can offer two-part application on site, or in your factory. They currently have 3 mobile mixing machines. Complete with it.s own dedicated compressor, each machine only requires a single 110volt supply. |

Why do you use two-part structural silicone in your factory? |

We use two-part silicone in our factory because it allows us to ship the units in 3/4 days. With one-part, we cannot ship for 2/3 weeks. This is purely a factor of the cure time |
